A New Semester

Well I guess this post has been a little while in the making. Sorry for the delay. We have been busy here at school these last couple weeks. Now that we have finished up our book, From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, we have gotten back to our weekly short stories in Reading. In Social Studies we have started looking at some of our states capitals as well has continued our current events study through our weekly newspaper and Scope magazine. The universe has been the topic of discussion lately in Science. We have been talking about early Astronomers and their theories about the universe. Put all of this together with writing, literature groups, book reports, math groups, a couple convocations, and a holidays and you can see that we have been going nonstop since our return from Christmas vacation.

With all that is going on in our class it is important that each students takes responsibilities for their work and what they have to get done. We have been working real hard on establishing a routine for getting our agendas filled out at the end of each day. We have a time set aside where we review what we did for that day and each student writes this information in their assignment books. Having that agenda or a simple notebook is key to keeping a running record of the assignments given in class.
